(For those of you who follow my knitting + crocheting on Facebook, you'll recognize these balls of yarn as the ones I initially used to knit a baby blanket. Turns out, I'm an extremely slow knitter. I ended up making a tough judgement call to restart the blanket entirely, but to crochet it instead. But it's finished now! Yay!)

This here is the last (for now) of the Artisan Features. Let me introduce you to Anna. I met Anna about 12 (was it 12?) years ago when we were both working at the same place one summer, in British Columbia. I can't remember anything super specific about our time together, but the crafting room/building and delicious granola bars for overnight hiking trips come to mind. I think I remember her running craft times at a long picnic-style table, but I could be wrong. Either way, she's pretty awesome.
Fast forward 8-ish years, and we realized we both were living in Manitoba now, and that one of my roommates at the time had gone to university with her. Of course, I was super excited to see Anna again after all those years, and it was wonderful to have her over to catch up one afternoon at our apartment. Anna's always been a crafty lady, and she's good at what she does, too. I admire her desire to re-design or re-purpose older clothing items to create something unique and relevant. (Side note - You should ask her about her wedding dress. Seriously. I love the sweet, thoughtful story behind her dress.) (Unrelated side note - I know her as Anna, but apparently everyone calls her Anna-Marie. Hopefully she's cool with me still calling her Anna. If not, I'll have to make the switch, I suppose.) ;) Want to know how Anna got her home business started, or know more about who she is and what she loves to do? (While Erin is not local like the rest of the featured artisans have been, she is the creator of the adorable crochet camera pattern, shown in the photo above. I have loved her camera design for a long while, so... I made an exception.) Click on the "Read More" link to read about how Erin got started, what her goals are, + what advice she gives to those starting out!
This week's artisan that's featured on my blog is Mel, of Hazel & Ivy Co. I've been following Mel online for a while, and have loved seeing the variety in her crocheted + knitted pieces. I'm loving her Clare Headband (www.etsy.com/ca/listing/480621715/the-clare-headband). Super cozy + full of smooshy cables!
Click on the "Read More" link to read Mel's interview. Find out how she got started, what running a small business has been like, + learn more about who she is as an artist. Don't forget to check out her Etsy listings + maybe order a piece or two for winter (winter's not that far away anymore...)! As a way of giving back to my local artisan community, I'll be featuring a few select artisans on my blog over the next several weeks. Each of these amazingly talented artisans has been hand-picked by myself, + I am so excited to share their artistic voices with you.
First up is Ashley, of Ashley Erika Designs. I've been keeping my eye on her a lot over the last several months (I hope you don't think that's creepy, Ashley - haha), as her yarn choices and design style remind me so much of my own. I also love that Ashley sticks to a colour scheme, that always seems to incorporate a staple neutral. Click on the "Read More" link to read Ashley's interview and to find out more about her, her craft, and advice she gives to up and coming designers, and make sure to follow her on social media to keep up with her knitting adventures! Wool dryer balls. Who's heard of them? I know I have. I've been wanting to try making them but I'm not one to fork over a handful of money for expensive yarn that may or may not turn into a helpful dryer ball set. So, I did what I often do, and I paid attention to what was in the thrift stores. Somehow, I completely lucked out and found 5 skeins (are they even technically skeins?) of what we think is 100% buffalo wool. Nine dollars, baby! I was ready to save money on dryer electricity use and reduce static in my laundry loads!
So, we somehow developed this thing at home where my husband will randomly say/sing a little made-up phrase, + then I immediately + instinctively turn it into a repetitive jingle where I dance + jump around + start giggling. I'm pretty sure he does this on purpose.
What's one of your weird quirks? Tells us in the comments! :) Um, I think it would have to be potato chips. Either ketchup, salt + vinegar, or all dressed. I just can't help myself. I'd eat them all the time if they were a healthy snack. They're all SO good.
What's your favourite comfort food? Tell us in a comment.
What's on yours? Share in the comments. :) I think I teared up a tiny, tiny bit last night while watching "The Prince & Me." ...I was really tired. It's not a sad movie.
