Well, I can finally show photos of the hats I made as Christmas gifts for family members. Two John Deere themed hats, and two slouchy purple hats, as requested. Everyone looks adorable in his or her hat. :)

For my newest nephew, I made a fox toque. I'd already made his big brother and big sister their own toques in previous years, and I knew he'd need something unique. It's a little big for him still, but hopefully it fits through this entire winter, and maybe next winter, too.
Pattern: here His hat is the 9-12 month size. The trickiest parts were the cheek fluffs and ears, but once I figured out one side, the other side followed smoothly. Not sure where the buttons came from, but they were probably from a thrift store. They look like great eyes on this little fox hat! Charlie was made a long time ago, but since I don't have a post with newly crocheted items ready yet, I decided to give Charlie a little limelight.
He took two days to make, and I have an extra leg in a shoebox still (I made 4 attempts at one leg, as my tension was slightly off and they kept coming out sized a bit too differently for my taste). Pattern for Charlie: here. Pattern for Charlie's hat: here. (The hat's button strap was made without a pattern.) Charlie is not available for purchase. You can see more from his photo session here. I made a brown version of this toque several months ago for one of my nephews. This one is toddler-sized. The one I made my nephew was child-sized, I think. His child-sized hat fit my own head, so it was pretty stretchy (it wasn't long enough for me or comfy being stretched that much, but I was just testing it out, anyway). This one took maybe 5 hours between yesterday and today. The cable looks fancy. I've been learning to make cables this past year, and this one's pretty easy. You could easily make the hat without the cable (which I considered doing but decided against, in the end). The pattern is well-written with accompanying photos. I think it went faster for me this time because it was the second time using the same pattern.
You can find the pattern for this hat here. And, this hat will be available at the craft show unless someone claims it prior to then. (The actual colour of the hat is a little brighter and a little darker than the photos show.) |
